Beta Alpha Psi

So my husband is a smarty pants Mcgee and super suavvve. He got inducted into Beta Alpha Psi (a highly recognized accounting society)...which is pretty impressive seeing as he's a JD student. Whatever, he's that good, he just sliiiipps into the lines.

Anyway, we had this super fancy meal at the Hilton. Let me share my experience with you.

Basically if I had never watched Pretty Woman, it would have been an epic fail.

Dress Code-business professional?? What does this even mean anymore? With Taylor's help I took it as wear all black skirt and top with a pop of a cardigan...I kind of felt like I was attending a funeral, but hey!

We arrived at the Hilton ready to schhhmmooze. ha. not. but seriously ready to chow down.  We walked into this cacophony of students mingled with professionals for a cocktail hour. Tay and I went to the bar to get some drinks.... meaning water...meaning actually tonic because the bar tender told us if we wanted water he would have to charge us...but tonic is free. weird. Who made up that rule?

PS. I have really only ever heard tonic referred to as "Gin and Tonic"..so without the gin, tonic is kind of like over-glorified seltzer. Whatever. Free is free.

So we were then seated in a circular table with about 6 other people... Tay knew one of the girls so we sat. I sat next to the girlfriend of the girl that Taylor knew. Complicated I know. But she was super sweet and seemed just as out of sorts as I did, so I appreciated her company. It was too loud to chit-chat much, but I got a few words in. When she spilled some gravy on herself I reassured her no one saw, seemed to help. I was seriously relying on her to show me how to eat...

Let's talk etiquette.  I know how to set a place when it's casual dinner and all you need is a fork, knife, spoon, and plate...when we start getting into multiples, you lose me and I think this is a waste of dishes. BUT. I really loved the experience.

Always start from the outside...and move in. When your Caesar salads arrive, you're supposed to use your knife and politely scoop the crouton onto the fork (thank you girlfriend of girl next to me). That could have been a disaster.

Dinner was green beans and wild rice with "Chicken Wrapped in Pastry"--seriously wrapped. It took me a while to find the chicken, it was hiding under a mushroom pate layer. ahhhh.

Dessert was DIVINE. I tell everyone I hate Red Velvet Cake. Obviously I have seriously eaten BAD Red Velvet, because this stuff was DIVINE. DIVINE. I loved it. The only difficult thing was trying to figure out if I was supposed to use the spoon or the fork because it came with BOTH. Umm. I opted for the fork, but that's just the kinda gal I am.

BUT the food isn't the important part of all this. I was so excited to see Taylor inducted with all his fellow companions. It was an impressive sight, and might I add he looks miiiiiggghty fine in a suit and tie.

I am so excited for you.  Thank you for letting me be your date ; )

PS, it's best we didn't get a picture of me.  I was reppin' the funeral look. Not.so.cute.

HungerGames.

I was addicted.
A-ddic-ted.

For about a few weeks and then the movie came out, and then I was so over it.
Basically Hunger Games is Fahrenheit 451 meets Gladiator.  It was a simple, intriguing read.
Had I lived in Panem I would have been part of the rebellion I'm sure.

However, my enthusiasm slowly faded as I read through the last book. eehhh. That's all, but let's say the movies for the last few will be quite interesting to see!

Anyway, here is picture overload of my excitement.

PS I was SERIOUSLY stoked.

 Don't mind my uber-creeper looking eyebrows...ha
I eased off a bitttt on the second shot ; )

Note my attempt at the Katniss braid.  ..give me a break, it's a lil' rough with layers in my hair.

We went 1 1/2 hrs early for our seats I think??...to wait in line...for a theater that was showing it every
20 minutes
emphasis.added.
seriously? ..and we still waited.

And then we got soaked.

Sunsets at the Beach...

I forgot to mention that my husband is fabulous and planned everything perfectly so we could have a sunset at the beach...which is phenomenal.

Just look. Because words just wouldn't be enough...

GATOR GAMEEEES

So we have school spirit, big whoop!

I'm pretty sure I'm pretty awesome at hootin' and hollerin' and talking smack or whatever.

I feel like my undergrad yrs of spirit were all just a big prep for FLORRRIDDDA.

(BYU-I doesn't have competitive sports...)

BUT the gators do!!

So basically, I'm terrible at the "chomp" though.  It's slightly embarassing; I NEVER get the timing right, but it's all in good fun, so here's to our Gator Mania.

Turns out we're quite the gymnastics fans.. seriously. it's.ridiculous.

I love date night gymnastics meets..and catching the end of baseball games on our walk home... and having it sprinkle on us along the way! It makes me miss/think/love home.

Day Trips and SunBurns

Taylor had Spring Break a few weeks back, so I took a couple days off and we did some random day trips. What fun to spend time with the boo.  He's quite the catch.

We live near this preserve called "Payne's Prarie" and ....it's pretty sweet.  Nothing like Washington's greenery, but fairly pretty in its own right. There weren't too many bugs out yet, and it doesn't feel like I'm walking around in a shower...or somebody's mouth so. Hey, it's not that bad.

Our second day trip was to Honeymoon Island State Park.  Taylor said we'd have to leave at the crack of dawn (it's 3hrs away) to miss all the Spring Break crazies...yano' stake our claim on a nice piece of beach...so when we arrived at 8 AM, this was our view:

This is my 8 AM beach face look, except it really was 5 am.. because that's when we got up to leave.
At least one of us is always perky = )

Hey, we beat everyone else, that's for sure.  Actually, it was super peaceful and relaxing to get there so early. We literally had the beach to ourselves.

...We ate over-priced chicken fingers, laid on the beach, swam in the gulf, and strolled. Best.Day.Ever...until the burn.

So, spf 4 is a no, so is spray tan, so is forgetting to reapply.. so is white-reflective sand. Hello, feet burn?

But, we've since recovered. I'm sparing all of you the Aloe bottle usage, reddened, blistered, peeled pictures that could have been taken.

Yah, for beach days in Florida! We're prepared for next time.

I wish I took at picture of the Garden-Taylor found this uber-cute restaurant in St.Petersburg with delic food, and jazz entertainment. We ate on a patio and were serenaded with some Otis Redding classics...fav.

Temple fun with the Blay's

We have this couple in our ward who are practically our twins.

Meet the Blay's.
Everyone gets us confused because...basically:
We're all from the West Coast... our husbands are in law school.. we're both going in the same nursing program.. we all have the same life plan.. and we're blonde, young, married, etc

So, needless to say, we became temple travelling buddies.
Here is our latest temple pic. Because we had travel buddies we didn't need to take a picture of ourselves, by ourselves. ha. What a relief!

We love the Blay's.

FRANKENOVEN

so i have this FUNFETTI -obsession. really. it's true. and this die-hard dream to be a CUPCAKE decorator.
Anyhoo, as of late our oven has been on the fritz. now known as "frankenoven"-rightfully so.

It's cooking time/temp/anything and everything are completely wrong and off and you have no idea what the darn thing is doing until it's too late and all of your fabulously piped cupcakes are incinerated to a blackened crisp.

Look at my precision!

take.note. ha

AND, gasp! horror.

thank you frankenoven for completely demolishing a batch of perfectly piped FUNFETTI cupcakes.
i currently loathe you.

-----------------------------------------------------

But, on an up note! I did pipe some super cute cupcakes ...later on..for a friend, Meghan's bday bash, that looked fabulous (and i didn't take a pic! curses!) just imagine they were the best darn pink funfetti cupcakes you'd ever seen!
